Charges for roaming in the EU

The way our network operates in the EU has changed.

Do these changes affect me?

For pay monthly handset and SIM customers:

  • If your plan started before 7 July 2021: If you're on a pay monthly plan and your contract started before 7 July 2021, these changes do not affect you.
  • If your plan started on or after 7 July 2021: If you take out a pay monthly handset or SIM plan from 7 July onwards, there is a daily charge for using your phone in our European roaming zone (see list of destinations).

For pay monthly tablet, laptop and mobile broadband customers:

  • If your plan started before 18 August 2021: If you're on a pay monthly tablet, laptop, mobile broadband or data SIM plan and your contract started before 18 August 2021, these changes do not affect you.
  • If your plan started on or after 18 August 2021: If you take a pay monthly tablet, laptop, mobile broadband or data SIM plan from 18 August 2021 onwards, there is a daily charge for using your phone in our European roaming zone (see list of destinations).

What are the new charges for EU roaming?

You can use your minutes, texts and data allowances in our European roaming zone (see list of destinations) for £2.47 a day.

Here's how the charges work:

  • One low fixed daily payment of £2.47 per day.
  • You don't need to do anything to opt in: if you use your allowances you'll pay £2.47 for that day, and if you don't, you won't be charged anything.
  • All your allowances work just like at home - and you can buy more data if you need to.
  • The £2.47 per day charge for using your phone in our European roaming zone started from your March 2024 bill cycle date.

Which countries will be affected?

The full list of countries affected by the EU roaming charges: Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus (excludes northern Cyprus), Czech Republic, Canary Islands, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe, Guernsey, Hungary, Iceland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion Islands, Romania, San Marino, Saint Martin (French), Saint Barthelemy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City (Italy).

Calls, texts and data within the Republic of Ireland are included within your allowance. If you use up your allowance, the £2.47 daily charge will apply.

Do I have any other options apart from paying a daily roaming charge?

Your allowance doesn’t include use of your plan's minutes, texts, and data in the EU/EEA.

Instead, you can take Roam Abroad as an Inclusive Extra or as an add-on to avoid the £2.47 daily charge for using your allowance in the EU/EEA.

If you’re going away for a week or more it’s cheaper to get the Roam Abroad Pass. You’ll be able to use your plan allowance in any of the destinations covered at no extra cost.

Taking Roam Abroad as an Inclusive Extra

If you have a plan with Inclusive Extras, choose our Roam Abroad Pass for £25 a month and you won’t have to pay the £2.47 daily charge in the EU.

Taking Roam Abroad as an add-on

Add Roam Abroad to your plan for just £25 a month and cancel at any time.

What happens if I have a Spend Cap?

Check your spend cap as you may need to increase it. Roaming charges count towards your spend cap, so if you reach it we’ll automatically block usage to prevent unwanted charges. Log in to EE and go to Account Settings > Manage your plan > Spend cap.
