iPhone 3gs-set up email manually



Please note that these instructions are based on a POP3 email account.

If you have another email account, there may be some differences in relation to some instructions.

    Find Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    Press Settings
    Press Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  1. Create new email profile
    Press Add Account...

  2. Select email provider
    Press the required email provider or Other
    If you select Other: Press Add Mail Account

  3. Enter sender name
    Press the Name input field and key in the name you want to use as sender in your email messages

  4. Enter email address
    Press the Address input field and key in your email address

  5. Enter password
    Press the Password input field and key in the password for your email account at your mail provider

  6. Enter profile name
    Press the Description input field and key in a name for your email profile (e.g. Private or Work)

  7. Save information
    Press Save

  8. Select server type
    Press POP

  9. Enter incoming server
    Press the Host Name input field below Incoming Mail Server and key in the name or IP address of your mail provider's incoming server

  10. Enter username
    Press the User Name input field below Incoming Mail Server and key in the username for your email account at your mail provider

  11. Enter outgoing server
    Press the Host Name input field below Outgoing Mail Server and key in the name or IP address of your mail provider's outgoing server

    Please note: If you are using a GPRS data connection to send and receive email messages, you might not have access to your email provider's SMTP server. Use smtp.t-email.co.uk instead

  12. Enter username for outgoing server
    Press the User Name input field below Outgoing Mail Server and key in the username for your email account at your mail provider

  13. Enter password for outgoing server
    Press the Password input field below Outgoing Mail Server and key in the password for your email account at your mail provider

  14. Save information
    Press Save

  15. Select email profile
    Press the name of the email profile you have just set up

  16. Activate or deactivate SSL encryption
    Press SMTP below Outgoing Mail Server
    Press the name of the outgoing server below Primary Server
    Press the box next to Use SSL
    When ON is displayed, SSL encryption of outgoing email messages is activated
    Press SMTP at the top of the display
    Press the name of your email profile at the top of the display
    Press Advanced
    Press the box next to Use SSL
    When ON is displayed, SSL encryption of incoming email messages is activated

  17. Select setting for copy on server
    Press Delete from server
    Press Never, Seven days or When removed from Inbox
    Press Advanced
    Press the name of your email profile at the top of the display
    Press Mail...

  18. Select number of email messages to retrieve
    Press Show below Mail
    Press the required setting
    Press Mail...

  19. Select how email messages are displayed in the inbox
    Press Preview below Mail
    Press None or the required number of lines to be displayed in the inbox
    Press Mail...

  20. Select setting for font size
    Press Minimum Font Size below Mail
    Press the required size
    Press Mail...

  21. Activate or deactivate show Cc label
    Press the box next to Show To/Cc Label below Mail
    When ON is displayed, Cc is activated

  22. Activate or deactivate message deletion confirmation
    Press the box next to Ask Before Deleting below Mail
    When ON is displayed, message deletion confirmation is activated

  23. Activate or deactivate remote images
    Press the box next to Load Remote Images below Mail
    When ON is displayed, confirmation is activated

  24. Choose copy settings
    Press the box next to Always Bcc Myself
    When ON is displayed, a copy of the email message will be sent as Bcc to your email account

  25. Select signature settings
    Press Signature
    Press the delete icon to clear the input field
    Key in the required signature
    Press Mail...

  26. Exit
    Press the Home key to return to standby mode

Edit email profile

    Find Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    Press Settings
    Press Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  1. Select email profile
    Press the required email profile

  2. Enter sender name
    Press the Name input field below POP Account Information and key in the name you want to use as sender in your email messages

  3. Enter email address
    Press the Address input field below POP Account Information and key in your email address

  4. Enter password
    Press the Password input field below <Email provider> Account Information and key in the password for your email account at your mail provider

  5. Enter profile name
    Press the Description input field below POP Account Information and key in a name for your email profile (e.g. Private or Work)

  6. Enter incoming server
    Press the Host Name input field below Incoming Mail Server and key in the name or IP address of your mail provider's incoming server

  7. Enter username
    Press the User Name input field below Incoming Mail Server and key in the username for your email account at your mail provider

  8. Enter password
    Press the Password input field below Incoming Mail Server and key in the password for your email account at your mail provider

  9. Enter outgoing server
    Press SMTP below Outgoing Mail Server
    Press the name of the existing outgoing server below Primary Server
    Press Host Name below Outgoing Mail Server
    Press the delete icon to clear the input field
    Key in the name or the IP number of your service provider's outgoing mail server

    Please note: If you are using a GPRS data connection to send and receive email messages, you might not have access to your email provider's SMTP server. Use smtp.t-email.co.uk instead.

  10. Enter username for outgoing server
    Press the User Name input field below Outgoing Mail Server and key in the username for your email account at your mail provider

  11. Enter password for outgoing server
    Press the Password input field below Outgoing Mail Server and key in the password for your email account at your mail provider

  12. Activate or deactivate encryption
    Press the box next to Use SSL
    When ON is displayed, SSL encryption of outgoing email messages is activated
    Press SMTP at the top of the display
    Press the name of your email profile at the top of the display
    Press Advanced
    Press the box next to Use SSL
    When ON is displayed, SSL encryption of incoming email messages is activated

  13. Select setting for copy on server
    Press Delete from server
    Press Never, Seven days or When removed from Inbox

    Press the name of your email profile at the top of the display
    Press Mail...

    When ON is displayed, message deletion confirmation is activated

  19. Activate or deactivate remote images
    Press the box next to Load Remote Images below Mail
    When ON is displayed, confirmation is activated

  20. Choose copy settings
    Press the box next to Always Bcc Myself
    When ON is displayed, a copy of the email message will be sent as Bcc to your email account

  21. Select signature settings
    Press Signature
    Press the delete icon to clear the input field
    Key in the required signature
    Press Mail...

  22. Exit
    Press the Home key to return to standby mode

Choose settings for retrieving email messages


Please note: To select settings for sending and retrieving email messages, you need to set up an email profile.

    Find Fetch New Data
    Press Settings
    Press Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    Press Fetch New Data

  1. Choose option
    Choose one of the following options:
    Activate or deactivate automatic email message retrieval, go to a
    Select interval for retrieving email messages, go to b
    Select retrieval for specific email profile, go to c

    a) Activate or deactivate automatic email message retrieval
    Press the box next to Push
    When ON is displayed, automatic email message retrieval is activated

    Please note: Push only works with MobileMe, Microsoft Exchange, Yahoo! Mail or other providers who support this technology. To retrieve email messages manually, deactivate automatic retrieval

    b) Select interval for retrieving email messages
    Press the required interval or Manually below Fetch

    c) Select retrieval for specific email profile
    Press Advanced
    Press the required email profile
    Press Fetch or Manual

  2. Exit
    Press the Home key to return to standby mode

Change email profile

Please note: Before you can change email profiles, you need to set up at least two profiles.

    Find Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    Press Settings
    Press Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  1. Change email profile
    Press Default Account below Mail
    Press the required email profile

  2. Exit
    Press the Home key to return to standby mode

Delete email profile

    Find Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    Press Settings
    Press Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  1. Delete email profile
    Press the required email profile
    Press Delete Account
    Press Delete Account again to confirm

  2. Exit
    Press the Home key to return to standby mode
