Bright Box 2 Wireless Router - change wireless network name

Most wireless access points broadcast their name (SSID). This is what's displayed when viewing available wireless networks and helps you to set up a wireless connection for the first time.

This article shows you how to view and change your wireless network name from your Bright Box 2 admin pages.

Open wireless settings

From a computer connected to your Bright Box 2:

  1. Go to 192.168.1.1 (opens in a new tab or window)

    Enter 192.168.1.1 into browser address bar

  2. The router's LOGIN SCREEN will open

  3. Enter the username and password for the admin pages

    - The username is admin (all lower case)
    - The password can be found on a sticker on the bottom of your router

  4. Click LOGIN

    Enter the username and password for the router's admin pages

  5. The STATUS page will open

  6. Select BASIC from the menu

    Select Basic from the EE menu

  7. Select Wireless Settings

    Select Wireless Settings

  8. The WIRELESS SETTINGS page will open
  9. From here, you'll find your Wireless Network Name (SSID)

    2.4GHz and 5GHz Wireless Network Name

 

Change your wireless network name

You can change your wireless network name for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz network (you'll need to re-connect your wireless devices).

Before you start, decide if you want to change settings for 2.4GHz and 5GHz - remove the tick if you don't want to change both names:

 

2.4GHz network

  1. From 2.4GHz SETTINGS enter a new name into the Wireless Network Name field - we've change the name of our network to PaulsWiFi

  2. Click SAVE SETTINGS

    Click SAVE SETTINGS

  3. Your settings will be updated
    Applying changes. Please wait. The process may take up to 30 seconds. If you are making wireless changes you may need to reconnect to the wireless network.

  4. Remember - after changing wireless settings, you'll need to re-connect to your new wireless network name

5GHz network

  1. From 5GHz SETTINGS enter a new name into the Wireless Network Name field - we've changed the name of our network to PaulsWiFi2

  2. You might like to disable the 5GHz prefix also - if you do click to tick




  3. Click SAVE SETTINGS

    Click SAVE SETTINGS

  4. Your settings will be updated
    Applying changes. Please wait. The process may take up to 30 seconds. If you are making wireless changes you may need to reconnect to the wireless network.

  5. Remember - after changing wireless settings, you'll need to re-connect to your new wireless network name

Broadcast the wireless network name

If you'd prefer your 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless networks not to broadcast their wireless network name, you can disable this option too. To change settings:

  1. Select the required option in the Broadcast SSID field
  2. In the example below we selected Disable



  3. Click SAVE SETTINGS

    Click SAVE SETTINGS

  4. Your settings will be updated
    Applying changes. Please wait. The process may take up to 30 seconds. If you are making wireless changes you may need to reconnect to the wireless network.

  5. If you disable the broadcast SSID option, you may need to change wireless settings on your device to Connect even if the network is not broadcasting (or similar)
