Motorola defy-add an email account


If you're a T-Mobile customer, follow these instructions to set up the phone for email. If you're an Orange customer, your settings are at the end of this article.

 

Follow these instructions to set up the phone for email.  If you need more help during setup, take a look at our top 25 email provider settings.

  1. Find Email
    Press the menu icon
    Press Email

  2. Select mail provider
    Press Email

  3. Enter email address
    Press the field below Email and key in your email address 

  4. Enter password
    Press the field below Password and key in the password for your mailbox at your email provider

  5. Deactivate automatic retrieval of email settings
    Press Automatically configure account to deactivate the function
    When the box next to the menu item is empty, the function is deactivated
    Press Next

  6. Enter profile name
    Press General settings
    Press the field below Account name and key in a name for the email profile (e.g. "Private" or "Work")

  7. Enter sender name
    Press the field below Real name and key in the required sender name
    Press OK

  8. Select server type
    Press Incoming server
    Press the drop down list at the top of the display
    Enter in your server type

  9. Enter incoming server
    Press the field below Server and key in the name of your mail provider's incoming mail server

  10. Enter incoming port
    Press the field below Port and enter your incoming port details
  11. Enter username
    Press the field below Username and key in the username for your email account at your email provider

  12. Deactivate SSL encryption of incoming email messages
    Press Use secure connection to deactivate the function.
    When the box next to the menu item is empty, the function is deactivated

  13. Deactivate security
    Press Verify certificate to deactivate the function
    When the box next to the menu item is empty, the function is deactivated
    Press OK

  14. Enter outgoing server
    Press Outgoing server
    Press the field below SMTP server and enter your outgoing server details

  15. Enter outgoing port
    Press the field below Port and enter your outgoing port details

  16. Deactivate SSL encryption of outgoing email messages
    Press Use secure connection to deactivate the function
    When the box next to the menu item is empty, the function is deactivated

  17. Deactivate security
    Press Verify certificate to deactivate the function
    When the box next to the menu item is empty, the function is deactivated
    Press OK

  18. Select settings for deleting email messages
    Press Other settings
    Press the Delete messages older than drop down list
    Press Never delete messages or the required setting
    Press Remove manually deleted emails from the server to activate or deactivate the function
    When the box next to the menu item is ticked (V), the function is activated
    Press OK

  19. Finish setup
    Press OK

  20. Exit
    Press the Home key to return to standby mode
