How Double Speed helps your digital life

How double speed helps your digital life
Pick a plan with 4GB of data or more to enjoy our new double speed 4GEE. With speeds of up to 60Mbps, it's like having home fibre broadband everywhere you go.

The speed of your connection will depend on where you are, with 20 towns and cities now fixed up with double speed. Right now, these comprise Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Southampton, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton, with more to come as we roll out the service.

    Getting technical
The new enhancements to our 4G network mean average speeds will be twice as fast as today – that means 24-30Mbps – and the very top speeds will go up to 60Mbps.

Upload speeds will also be doubled to 11 Mbps. Here at EE, we can do this because we have sufficient portions of 1800 spectrum to upgrade our customers to 2 x 20 MHz from the current 2 x 10 MHz they use today. It's like adding two additional lanes of traffic to a road and changing the speed limit, meaning you can get more cars travelling on it, at faster speeds.

What does this mean to me?
You'll notice a difference. As if 4GEE isn't already delivering impressive speeds, at 24-30Mbps all the way up to 60Mbps, double speed will enable you to download huge files – photos, music, movies… all the big content – in a flash. This doubling of speeds is enabled by the final stage of integration and optimisation of the EE network.

There will be no different network indicator on your phone. It will continue to display 4G or LTE whenever you are connected to 4GEE. Also, as more and more people sign up to 4G services, 4GEE from EE will always have the capacity to deliver superfast speeds – even on busy cell sites at peak times. Because we now own the most spectrum in the UK, we are the only operator that will be able to meet ever-growing demand and always deliver a superfast service.

So we have the infrastructure in place. The difference will mean an even smoother, superfast service.

What about data? Will double speed use more?
Don't worry – the same amount of content, received at the same quality, doesn't mean more data use on double speed 4GEE.

What's the benefit of the extra speed?
No mysteries here. Everything you do on the internet – downloading movies and music, and of course weighty work files – can be done twice as quickly. And with 4GEE speeds already at the top tier, double speed means you'll barely notice the time it takes.
