Frequently asked questions about the trial
If you’re an existing EE or BT Broadband customer and are selected to take part in the trial, we’ll apply a credit to your current broadband bill for the duration of the trial. All charges for any second line with broadband as part of the trial will be free of charge for the duration of the trial.
As part of your installation, an EE engineer will fit a new line, ONT (the small box that connects the fibre coming into your home), and provide the equipment needed for your connection – all free of charge for the duration of the trial.
For the trial we will be using a combination of both our Smart Hub 7 Pro and additionally a 3rd party device (dependent on product supplied for trial purposes). If a 3rd party device is supplied, this may mean not all EE's products and service are supported during the trial. We'll confirm the details if you're eligible and selected.

XGS-PON technology is capable of delivering symmetrical speeds of up to 8Gbps. However, during the trial we’ll be testing specific speed profiles rather than full symmetrical performance. Most trialists will receive speeds of up to 8Gbps download and 800Mbps upload, while some homes will be selected to trial our 2.3Gbps download and 230Mbps upload service instead. Your actual speeds may depend on your home setup, devices and how you connect.
At the end of the trial, the service will be removed and there will be no obligation to continue. Your pre-existing primary broadband connection will stay as it is (if a second line was provided as part of the trial). Once available, you’ll have the option to move your primary service onto a higher speed paid plan. We’ll keep you updated throughout.
Once the trial is complete, we plan to introduce a paid‑for service in eligible areas, with more details on pricing, availability and speed options will be shared closer to launch.
