HELP WITH BUSINESS ROAMING

Check you're good to go

Check that roaming is activated

It’s a good idea to check that roaming has been activated and that your devices are ready to be used abroad before you get there.

Roaming needs to be activated for each mobile number you want to use when you’re abroad. This includes roaming in our Europe Zone.

You can activate roaming using My EE or contact Customer Service if you prefer.

How to activate roaming using My EE:

  • Log in to My EE.
  • Select ‘Manage Device’ from the main menu.
  • Select the ‘Group Usage Controls’ tab.
  • Check the status of the Roaming abroad and Call abroad and premium rate controls — both need to be activated to use your phone abroad.
  • Use the slider to activate the controls, if required.

Enable data roaming on your device

Your device has a data roaming control in its settings which needs to be enabled. If it’s disabled, you won’t be able to use mobile data when you’re abroad.

Here’s how to enable data roaming on your device:

  • Check our Device Guides
  • Choose your device.
  • Select the Connectivity section.
  • Select the Turning data roaming on or off article from the Data usage section.
  • Follow the guidance.

Handy tips to help you reduce costs:

Prevent Voicemail Charges

Switch your voicemail off, by texting VM OFF to 150 before you go. To turn it back on when you’re home just text VM ON to 150.

Check how many characters are in your texts

Every 160 characters count as a text. If you send texts longer than this, you are charged for multiple text messages.

Turn off ‘Wi-Fi Assist’ in your device settings

Some devices have a feature which may use your data even when you're connected to Wi-Fi.

Use our Device Guides for help switching it off.

Is there a fair use policy in the EU?

Your plan's terms and conditions include limits which are known as fair use policy.

Whilst roaming in Europe, the fair use policy is 15GB for all plans with a domestic data allowance of more than 15GB. For 30GB and 60GB plans there’s a 25GB fair use policy, and unlimited plans have a 60GB fair use policy.

Once you have used up your fair use amount when roaming, we’ll let you know. If you want to keep using data when roaming, you’ll have to buy a data add-on.

For more information, read our fair use policy

If you have a Business Connect plan, you’re exempt from the fair use policy. For Business Connect plans bought after 1 November 2017, there’s no cap on data usage and standard rates will apply after your allowance has finished. However, for plans bought before 1st November 2017, data usage when roaming in the EU has a €50 cap (currently £42) per user (that’s about 2.6GB).

To continue using data after the cap has been activated, text 1MCAP to 150 or contact Customer Service to unblock usage for 1 month. Want to remove the cap permanently? Text STOPEUCAP to 150 at any time.

These roaming benefits are available to UK based customers only. Our plans are intended for customers with a stable link to the UK who travel abroad periodically. For details of what we consider to be stable links, and the surcharges or other restrictions which we may apply where the user does not meet the stable links requirements, please see our Price Guide at ee.co.uk/business terms
