How do I get an eSIM second line?

It’s really simple. You first need to set up your phone with your first line and normal SIM card. You can then sign up to a new SIM only plan with EE or you can move an existing plan onto an eSIM by visiting one of our EE stores or by calling us on 150.

How do I set up my new eSIM second line?

When you sign up to a new plan with an eSIM for your second line you’ll be provided with an eSIM card pack that contains a QR code. To set up your second line:

  1.

go into Settings > Mobile Data

  2.

    select Add Data Plan

  3.

you'll be asked to scan the QR code on your eSIM pack and once recognised you can confirm by pressing the Add Data Plan button

As part of the set up you will be given the option to assign a name to each line and also choose what lines are used by default for data and default for voice and messages. These can be easily changed at a later date if you change your mind by going to Settings > Mobile Data > Default Voice Line / Mobile Data.

How do I move an existing line to an eSIM second line?

If you have an existing line you'll need to set up your eSIM as above. Once the set up is complete you'll see that you have a second line but no phone number is present. You simply need to go to www.ee.co.uk/simswap and follow the instructions.

You’ll need the SIM serial number from your eSIM card pack and be able to receive a pin verification to your old SIM. If you aren’t able to use your old SIM you’ll need to call us on 150 from your EE phone so we can swap the number over for you.

What is the eSIM QR code?

What is the eSIM QR code?

QR stands for "quick response" and is a type of barcode that is used to provide easy access to information through a smartphone. QR codes are unique and need to be captured with your phone's camera. There's a QR code reader built into your iPhone's iOS which will launch during setup, so there's no need to download a third party app.

When you capture your eSIM QR code, the information contained in it is sent back to EE and allows us to add the eSIM onto your phone in a safe and secure way.

What if my eSIM QR code or device camera is damaged?

No worries, you can manually add the information contained within the QR code if it's damaged. When the Scan QR Code screen is open when you select Add Data Plan there is an option to Enter Details Manually. There are 3 fields to fill in:

  1.

    SM-DP+ Address: enter sm-v4-010-a-gtm.pr.go-esim.com

  2.

Activation Code: this is unique to each eSIM card and can be found on your eSIM card pack underneath the set up instructions

  3.

Confirmation Code: this is not required and should be left blank

How do I know which line my calls are on?

How do I know which line my calls are on?

Initially all your contacts will be assigned to the line you chose as your default voice line during set up. If you want to change this, there is an indicator within each contact that gives you the option to change which line you use for that contact.

If you're just entering a phone number straight into the dialler, you'll be able to select which line you call that number from in the options on screen.

For incoming calls, there is an indicator to show which line you're receiving the call on. The indicator is the first letter of the name you assigned to each line - for example, if your labels are called Personal and Business, the call indicator would be a P or a B.

If you're taking a call on the line that's not the same as your default data line then data won't work unless you turn on Mobile Data Switching.

This can be accessed through Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Switching and will automatically switch lines for mobile data when you're on a call.
