  •

Voicemail security

Voicemail security

Once your voicemail’s set up, you should add security to protect it and allow you to pick up all your messages from any phone. If you’re on pay monthly you can also pick up voicemail messages from abroad.

There are two stages you need to complete – setting a PIN and activating a PIN prompt.

It’s a good idea to set up your voicemail PIN as soon as you get your phone or SIM card.

To make it nice and secure, your PIN can’t
  •

have fewer than four numbers, or more than ten

  •

contain only repetitive numbers e.g. 1111

  •

have only sequential numbers e.g. 1234 or 4321

  •

be the same as your mobile number, or your mobile number without the first zero, or the last six digits of your mobile number

  •

be 2580 or 1210 (these have been used as default PINs in the past)

If you decide to change your PIN, the new number must be different to the old one.

We'd also recommend you:
  •

don’t use your date of birth as your PIN

  •

don’t tell anyone your PIN. If you think someone knows it, change it straight away

  •

change your PIN on a regular basis

  •

    don’t write your PIN down

To set your voicemail PIN for accessing your messages from another phone:
  •

call your voicemail (press and hold 1)

  •

have messages saved – they’ll play right away. To go to the main menu, press *

  •

select option 3 – settings and features menu

  •

select option 3 – change your PIN

  •

enter a new PIN, then press # to save

For additional security, it's also possible to require the entry of your PIN every time you access your voicemail, either from another phone or from your mobile phone itself.

To make sure you need a PIN when accessing voicemail from your own phone:
  •

from the mailbox settings and features menu, select option 3

  •

if the option to enter a PIN every time you enter your voicemail is off, you'll be asked to press 2 to activate it

To be sent a text message every time someone accesses your voicemail from another phone:
  •

in the mailbox features menu, listen to option 4

  •

if your remote access alerts are off, select option 4 to turn them on

Voicemail not working

Voicemail not working

Call diverts allow your callers to leave voicemail messages if you don’t answer. They’re usually set up as standard, but if you find people can’t leave you voicemails, call us on 150 and select technical support. We’ll be happy to set it up for you.

Managing your voicemail while you're abroad

Managing your voicemail while you're abroad

Voicemail messages are free so long as you’re within the EU. Outside the EU there may be a charge

Turning voicemail diverts off

If you don't want to be charged for voicemails while you're abroad you can switch your voicemail diverts off – text VM
OFF
 to 150.

This will mean that anyone who calls you won't be able to leave a voicemail message.

Turning voicemail diverts on

When you're back in the UK, you’ll need to turn voicemail diverts on so people can leave you voicemail messages again. Text VM ON to 150.

Visual voicemail

Visual voicemail

Visual voicemail is a way to scan and manage your voicemails easily and instantly on your iPhone screen.

You can get visual voicemail if you've:
  •

    got an iphone

  •

have updated your software to the latest version of IOS

  •

have the most up to date EE carrier settings - 13.2 or above

To activate visual voicemail, text iPhone visual to 150. We'll text you back when it's set up.

What's the difference between visual and normal voicemail?

No more calling up - with visual voicemail you don't have to call a number to get your messages, and you don't have to listen to them in order.

Instead, just tap your voicemail icon to see all your voicemails as a list on your screen. It'll show you who the messages are
from, when they were left and how long they are.

Costs

It’s included in your pay monthly plan at no extra charge. There may be a data charge when you’re abroad.

Sorry, you can’t get visual voicemail on a pay as you go plan.

To remove visual voicemail

Text iPhone visual off to 150, and we’ll text you back to confirm.

My visual voicemail hasn't set up properly

If you’ve not been able to finish setting up visual voicemail on your iPhone, try rebooting. If that doesn’t activate it, try these steps:

  •

from your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Change password

  •

    update your iOS software

  •

update your carrier settings. Go to Settings > General > About

Call return

Call return

Call Return allows you to quickly return a voicemail call by pressing #.

If the number’s been captured, the voicemail service will offer you the option to 'press hash to return the call'.

Costs

A Call Return call is charged as a normal call within your inclusive minutes. It will appear on your bill as Call Return.

Troubleshooting
  •

Call Return will only work if the incoming number has been captured by voicemail

  •

the caller may have withheld their number or are calling from a number that cannot be 'Call Returned'. Call Return is only available if you hear the option at the end of the message

  •

if you press # during the message and the option isn’t available, then it’ll just be ignored

  •

Call Return will work for international and premium numbers, so long as they’re part of your price plan and features
