From time to time, it can help to reset your browser. Here’s how:

Internet Explorer

  1.  

    click Tools > Internet options

  2.  

    select Advanced > Reset

  3.  

    select Delete personal settings – this is optional, but can often help

  4.  

    click Reset – your browser will reset

  5.  

    click Close

  6.  

    close and re-open Internet Explorer to check if you've fixed the problem

Firefox

  1.  

    click the Firefox button

  2.  

    go to Help > Troubleshooting Information

  3.  

    select Reset Firefox

  4.  

    Firefox will restart

  5.  

    you can now check if you've fixed the problem

Google Chrome

  1.  

    go to Menu > Settings

  2.  

    choose Show advanced settings

  3.  

    then Reset settings > Reset settings

  4.  

    finally, select Reset

Safari (Apple Mac)

  1.  

    open the Safari menu

  2.  

    click Reset

  3.  

    Safari will restart

  4.  

    you can now check if you've fixed the problem

Using a work laptop at home, and having problems viewing web pages? Here’s how to check if proxy server settings are causing the problem.

If you also use work VPN software, you'll usually need your proxy settings turned on while connected to VPN, and off while not.

Internet Explorer and Google Chrome

  1.  

    click Tools > Internet options

  2.  

    select Connect > LAN settings

  3.  

    remove checks from all boxes and click OK

Firefox

  1.  

    choose Menu > Options and Options again

  2.  

    select the Network > Settings

  3.  

    select No proxy > OK

Apple Mac

  1.  

    click the Apple icon in the top left of the menu bar, then System Preferences

  2.  

    click Network

  3.  

    select AirPort (or Ethernet depending on the type of connection you're using)

  4.  

    click Advanced

  5.  

    click on Proxies

  6.  

    remove any ticks in the check boxes under Select a protocol to configure

  7.  

    make sure Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains settings only contain local, 169.254/16 (or that the field is blank) 

  8.  

    click OK, then if you've made any changes, click Apply Now

  9.  

    on your keyboard, press Apple, and the letter Q to quit System Preferences

Internet Explorer

  1.  

    click Tools > Internet Options

    under Browsing history, click Delete

  3.  

    click to remove the check from Preserve Favourites website data

  4.  

    click to check remaining options

  5.  

    select Delete

  6.  

    your cache and cookies will be cleared

  7.  

    click OK to close Internet options

Firefox (Windows)

  1.  

    open the Firefox menu

  2.  

    select Options

  3.  

    select Advanced > Network

  4.  

    in the Cached Web content field, select Clear Now

  5.  

    your cache and cookies will be cleared

Firefox (Apple Mac)

  1.  

    from Firefox, open the menu

  2.  

    click on Preferences

  3.  

    select Privacy > clear your recent history

  4.  

    in the time range... menu, select Everything

  5.  

    open the Details menu (if required)

  6.  

    select all the items you want to clear, making sure that cookies and cache are included

  7.  

    click Clear Now

  8.  

    your cache and cookies will be cleared

Google Chrome (Windows)

  1.  

    click the Chrome menu in your browser's toolbar

  2.  

    select Tools > Clear browsing data...

  3.  

    in the box that appears, select to Obliterate the following items from the beginning of time

  4.  

    then click to check all options you want to delete – make sure cookies and cached images are included

  5.  

    click Clear browsing data

  6.  

    your cache and cookies will be cleared

Google Chrome (Apple Mac)

  1.  

    click the Chrome menu in your browser's toolbar

  2.  

    select Tools > Clear browsing data...

  3.  

    in the box, select Obliterate the following items from the beginning of time

  4.  

    then click to check all options you want to delete – make sure cookies and cached images are included

  5.  

    click Clear browsing data

  6.  

    your cache and cookies will be cleared

Safari (Apple Mac)

  1.  

    click on Safari in your Mac's menu bar and select Preferences

  2.  

    select Privacy

  3.  

    click Remove All Website Data...

  4.  

    click Remove Now to confirm that you want to remove all data

  5.  

    your cache and cookies will be cleared
