Set up port forwarding

You can set up Port Forwarding on your Bright Box router so that certain types of data are sent to a specific computer, device or server connected to your home network. This is useful if you're having problems using a particular online game or maybe if you're an advanced user running a web server from your home network.

Before setting up a Port Forwarding rule, it's a good idea to reserve an IP address for your computer (or device). You can do this from the DHCP option in Advanced Set-up. You'll find more help in the article reserving an IP address.

Next, you can set up your rule from your router's admin pages. To do this:

  1. From a computer connected to your Bright Box, go to (opens in a new tab or window)

  2. The router's LOGIN SCREEN will open

  3. Enter the username and password for the admin pages
    - The username is admin (all lower case)
    - The password can be found on a sticker on your router

  4. Click LOGIN

  5. The STATUS page will open

  6. Select ADVANCED

  7. You'll be prompted to proceed with caution - select ACCEPT

  8. From the left hand menu, select NAT and then Port Forwarding

Port Forwarding - popular applications

You can pick from a few applications using the popular applications list. To do this:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  2. Select your application from the popular applications menu, e.g. FILE TRANSFER SERVER

  3. Select the field that you want to paste the ports to, e.g. 1
  4. Click COPY TO

  5. Enter the IP address of the computer that you want to port forward to
  6. In the example below we reserved the IP address so have entered 17

  8. Your new rules will be applied
