FAQs

OLED, or Organic Light-Emitting Diode, means each of the over 8 million pixels on the A90K generates its own light independently and can switch off completely to produce absolute black. Unlike LED TVs that use a backlight, OLED panels offer near-infinite contrast ratios, perfect black levels and a wide viewing angle with no loss of colour or brightness. The A90K’s OLED panel combined with Cognitive Processor XR produces pictures that are true to how humans see and perceive the world.

The Cognitive Processor XR is Sony’s advanced TV processor, designed to replicate human perception rather than just make mechanical picture adjustments. It cross-analyses multiple image elements at once, including colour, contrast, depth and motion, then enhances each in a way that feels natural to the eye. The result is strong depth, texture and vibrancy whether you’re watching 4K HDR content or an older SD broadcast.

The A90K is available at EE in 42" and 48" screen sizes. The 42" model is a strong choice for a bedroom, home office or smaller living room where space is limited but you still want premium OLED picture quality. The 48" offers more screen space without feeling too large, making it a versatile option for most rooms. Both sizes perform well as gaming displays, with 4K/120fps and HDMI 2.1 features on both models.

The A90K supports HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. OLED’s absolute black levels work with Dolby Vision’s dynamic metadata to reproduce highlights and shadows with impressive accuracy and contrast. IMAX Enhanced is also supported, showing compatible films in the director-approved expanded aspect ratio. Netflix Calibrated Mode presents Netflix content as it was graded by the filmmakers.

The A90K is a strong gaming display at this screen size. It supports HDMI 2.1 on 2 ports, enabling 4K gaming at up to 120fps with input lag as low as 8.5ms, fast enough for competitive titles. VRR and ALLM are supported for smooth, tear-free gameplay. PlayStation 5 owners benefit from Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, while Dolby Vision for Gaming delivers vibrant HDR visuals.

Acoustic Surface Audio+ is Sony’s speaker technology where the screen itself becomes the speaker. Actuators behind the panel vibrate the OLED surface to produce sound, so audio comes directly from the action you see on screen, like dialogue from an actor’s mouth or effects from the right position. This creates a more immersive and natural experience than conventional downward-firing TV speakers. The system supports Dolby Atmos for spatial audio depth.

Yes. The A90K runs Google TV with Chromecast built in, making it easy to cast directly from an Android or Google device. Apple AirPlay 2 is also included, so you can mirror or stream content from an iPhone, iPad or Mac without extra hardware. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa provide hands-free voice control over your TV and smart home tech.

Yes. The A90K makes an excellent desktop display, particularly for creative professionals. The OLED panel’s wide colour gamut, accurate reproduction and virtually zero input lag make it well suited for photo and video editing. It supports a custom Graphics picture mode optimised for PC use, and 4K PC inputs are supported over HDMI. The compact 42" size is especially practical as a large desktop monitor or small-room display.

Both are premium OLED 4K TVs, but there are some distinct differences. The A90K is available in compact 42" and 48" sizes, powered by the Cognitive Processor XR and well suited for gaming and smaller rooms. The Bravia 8 XR80 is a newer model available in larger 55", 65" and 77" sizes with updated processing and approximately 10% higher brightness than previous-generation Sony OLED models. Choose the A90K for a smaller, gaming-focused OLED or the Bravia 8 XR80 for a larger, newer OLED.

One of the key advantages of the A90K’s OLED technology is its exceptional wide-angle viewing. Unlike LCD-based TVs where brightness and colour accuracy can shift noticeably when you move off-centre, OLED panels maintain near-perfect picture quality from virtually any angle. This makes the A90K ideal for rooms where multiple people watch from different positions or for wall-mounted installations in open-plan living areas.
