Question 1

What is Freely on the Toshiba UF26 Fire TV and do I need a TV aerial to use it?

Accepted Answer

Freely is a built-in streaming platform that lets you watch live UK TV channels including BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 and Channel 5 without the need for a traditional roof aerial or satellite dish. On the Toshiba UF26, Freely is integrated directly into the Fire TV interface, so you can tune into live broadcasts and on-demand content with just a broadband connection.

Question 2

Which size Toshiba UF26 is right for my room?

Accepted Answer

Choosing the right size depends on how far away you'll be sitting from the screen. For a typical UK living room with a viewing distance of around 2 to 2.5m, the 50" delivers an immersive feel without overwhelming the space, while at 2.5 to 3m the 55" hits the sweet spot and for open-plan spaces or rooms where you'll be sitting 3m or more away the 65" makes full use of the 4K resolution for a truly cinematic presence.

Question 3

What streaming services can you watch on the Toshiba UF26 4K Fire TV?

Accepted Answer

Thanks to the built-in Fire TV platform, the Toshiba UF26 gives you instant access to Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and NOW all in 4K where content is available, straight out of the box. BBC iPlayer, ITVX and other free-to-air UK catch-up services are available through Freely, while the Fire TV app store lets you download hundreds of additional apps.

Question 4

Does the Toshiba UF26 support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Toshiba UF26 supports both Dolby Vision HDR for picture and Dolby Atmos for audio across all 4 sizes. Dolby Vision analyses the picture frame by frame to deliver more precise brightness, contrast and colour, while Dolby Atmos creates a more immersive, three-dimensional sound experience on compatible content.

Question 5

Can you connect a soundbar to the Toshiba UF26?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There are 2 straightforward ways to do it. The easiest method is via the HDMI ARC/eARC port, which carries audio from the TV to a compatible soundbar in a single cable and supports lossless formats including Dolby Atmos or you can use the optical audio output for soundbars without HDMI ARC or connect a wireless soundbar via Bluetooth without any cables at all.

Question 6

Is the Toshiba UF26 good for gaming?

Accepted Answer

The Toshiba UF26 is a capable choice for casual gaming, supporting HDMI connections for consoles and including a dedicated Game picture mode that adjusts image processing for faster response. It's worth noting that the UF26 does not support 4K/120Hz or variable refresh rate (VRR), so it's not designed for the most demanding next-generation gaming setups, but for everyday gaming on PS5 or Xbox Series S it delivers a solid experience.

Question 7

How does Alexa work on the Toshiba UF26 Fire TV?

Accepted Answer

The Toshiba UF26 comes with an Alexa Voice Remote in the box, so you can use your voice to search for shows, switch inputs, adjust the volume, launch apps or check the weather, all without picking up the remote. Because Fire TV is built directly into the UF26 rather than added via a separate stick, the Alexa experience is seamlessly integrated into the TV interface across all 4 sizes.

Question 8

What picture quality features does the Toshiba TRU Picture Engine offer on the UF26?

Accepted Answer

The TRU Picture Engine is Toshiba's suite of picture processing technologies built into the UF26, including TRU Resolution for upscaling lower-resolution content to near-4K quality, TRU Micro Dimming for more precise local contrast and TRU Flow to reduce motion blur in sport and action scenes. Combined with HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, the result is a bright, detailed and colour-rich picture across all content types, with the benefit most noticeable on the larger 55" and 65" screens.
