The PlayStation 5 was released in November 2020 and despite issues with stock in the first few months PS5 consoles are now generally readily available.
The only difference between the two consoles is the inclusion of a Disc drive / blu ray player. With the disc edition you’re able to play games both from a disc and digital through the PlayStation store. But with the digital edition the whole experience is digital, no need for discs or cases.
Both consoles are comparable with the PS5 just edging performance but it’s worth considering things like the gaming exclusives across both consoles and whether the PS5 or Xbox Series S or Series X will have the games you’re looking to play. Things like Xbox Game Pass or the PS Plus Catalogue are important if having access to games is your main concern.
This depends very much on how much you game, the types of games you want to play and how you want to play. If you want access to everything, new titles, classics and the ability to quickly pick up and play games over the cloud then Premium is the tier for you. If you still want access to a library of classics, but aren’t worried about cloud gaming or trails for the latest titles then PS Plus Extra is probably right for you. If none of these things appeal to you and all you want to do is game online with your friends then PS Plus Essential should be ok.
