How do I set up my Apple Watch on my EE plan?

Here's how to pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone, or unpair it, and add an EE data plan.

Help with setting up your Apple Watch

Set up your Apple Watch using VoiceOver or with  Zoom with help from Apple.

Pair an Apple Watch with an iPhone

To pair your Apple Watch, you’ll need an iPhone 6 or a newer model on an EE pay monthly or SIM-only plan, and be running the latest iOS Software.

Check that your iPhone is:

  • turned on to Bluetooth - go to Settings > Bluetooth > select ON
  • connected to 4G or 5G on the EE network.

Check you have: 

  • an Apple Account and Password
  • an Apple Watch passcode 
  • connected your old and new phone to the WiFi
  • 50% charge on both your Apple Watch and iPhone

Choose if you want support pairing an old or new iPhone.

Update your old iPhone and Apple watch to the newest versions.

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into a power source and connect to the internet with WiFi.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Select General, then tap Software Update.
  5. Choose the software update option you want to install.
  6. Select Install Now.

Updates can range in time from a couple of minutes to an hour.

If this step is complete, move to the next section.

Back up your health and activity settings 

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select [your name] 
  3. Select iCloud.
  4. Select See All
  5. Check and make sure Health is on.  

If this step is complete, move to the next section.

Back up your old iPhone 

  1. Back up your old iPhone using iCloud or your computer.

If this step is complete, move to the next section.

Set up your new iPhone 

  1. Press and hold the iPhone's power button until you see the Apple Logo. This may take a few minutes.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Select your preferred size for text and icons from Default, Medium or Large.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Select Set Up Without Another Device.
  6. Select your WiFi network.

If this step is complete, move to the next section.

Set up Face ID or Touch ID and create a passcode

  1. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up Face ID or Touch ID.
  2. Set a 6 digit passcode, when prompted.

Restore or transfer your data and apps

  1. Use iCloud backup or a backup made from your computer.
  2. Select Don't transfer Apps & Data if you don't have a backup on another device. 

Open the Apple Watch on your new iPhone 

  1. Put the Apple Watch on your wrist. 
  2. Unlock the Apple Watch.
  3. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  4. Select Confirm, when prompted if you want to use your Apple Watch.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to finish setting up.

Sign in with your Apple Account

  1. Enter the email address or phone number that you use with your Apple Account.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. Follow the prompts on-screen. 

Unpair an Apple Watch from an iPhone

Need to know

When you unpair your Apple Watch, it will go back to its factory settings. Your iPhone will create a backup of your Apple Watch.

To unpair your Apple Watch:

  1. Hold your iPhone and Apple Watch close together.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Go to the My Watch tab and touch the banner at the top of the screen that has the name of your watch in it.
  4. Select i next to the Apple Watch that you want to unpair and tap Unpair Apple Watch.
  5. Choose to keep or remove your data plan - if you're unpairing because of an issue you’ve been having, or you’ve upgraded to a new iPhone you don't need to remove the data plan.
  6. Select Keep Data Plan - if you're pairing to another iPhone 
  7. Select Remove Data Plan -  selling your Apple Watch.
  8. Tap i to confirm and then enter your Apple ID and password to complete the unpairing.

 

 

That’s it - your Apple Watch will be ready to pair again.

Set up an EE data plan on an Apple Watch

To set up your data plan, follow these simple steps:

 

  • Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  • Select Set up Mobile Data - you'll then be directed to log in to EE and use the set-up wizard.
  • Follow the set-up steps.
  • Contact us if you don't have an EE account.

 

 

Set up an Apple Watch not bought from EE

To use the full data and calling capabilities, you'll need to have an iPhone 6 or a newer model (including SE) on an EE pay monthly or SIM-only plan, and be running the latest iOS Software.

My Apple Watch was bought from a third party; what do I need to do?

If your Apple Watch was bought somewhere other than EE, e.g at Apple, John Lewis, Argos or somewhere else you'll need your EE log in to pair the Apple Watch with your iPhone on EE and to set up the data plan.

To set up the data plan:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

  4. Or call 150 if you don't have an EE account.

Need to know

If you bought your Apple Watch from a third party as a gift, you’ll need to tell the recipient that they'll need an EE account, and their EE log in to activate the Apple Watch with their iPhone. Or to call 150 if they don’t have an EE account.

Second-hand Apple Watch

You’ll need to check that the Apple Watch has been unpaired by the previous owner from their iPhone.

If it has been unpaired, you can follow our steps to pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone.

If it hasn’t been unpaired, the Apple Watch will be activation locked which means you cannot pair it to another iPhone.
