WiFi 7 is the latest and best technology if you want to power up your home network.
We’ve all had tricky experiences with WiFi, where you need to be close to your hub, connected by an ethernet cable, or only use it during quiet times of the day to get the speeds you require.
However, upgrading from WiFi 6 technology to WiFi 7 should hopefully change all of that.
Find out more about the difference between WiFi 7 and WiFi 6
WiFi 7 will improve your gaming, streaming and working from home experience, so even when you’re further away from the hub, or you have a busy household, you get the connection that you need.
What is WiFi 7?
WiFi is what connects your broadband hub to all your connected devices around the home. WiFi technology is continually being improved, and WiFi 7 is the latest upgrade.
If you get an EE Smart Hub with WiFi 7 technology, you can get faster speeds on your devices, more consistently, without having to be right next to the hub.
Plus, you get more bandwidth to share between devices, reduced congestion and less chance of interference.
1. You have a need for speed
If you pay for a broadband package with fast speeds, it can be frustrating if the connection you get on your various devices around the home is unpredictable. Upgrading to a broadband hub with WiFi 7 means that you can get a serious boost and a more consistent connection.
WiFi 7 can in theory hit speeds up to 46Gbps, five times faster than the limits of WiFi 6. Although, your current devices can’t use such astonishing speeds, it shows the power and potential of WiFi 7 to transform your experiences around the home.
It means crystal clear video calls, lightning-fast gaming sessions without any pesky lag and buffer-free 4K streaming for TV binges and movie marathons.
2. You want to futureproof your home
Our lives are becoming more dependent on connected devices for work, leisure and staying in touch with friends and family. As we begin to connect everything from TVs and laptops to fridges, heating and home security to our home network, the demand we’re placing on the WiFi increases.
WiFi 7 has the capacity to deal with everything we can throw at it without slowing down devices. The increased network capacity means that every device receives a stable and fast connection.
3. A home network built for gaming
One of the biggest problems for gamers is lag and glitching when you’re not connected to your broadband hub. Older WiFi technology can often struggle to keep up with the demands of online gaming and emerging technology like AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality).
WiFi 7 takes a huge leap forward on improving latency with some technical innovations - most notably Multi-Link Operation (MLO). MLO means your devices can connect to multiple bands at the same time. It cuts down on latency and makes your connection much more reliable.
Older devices will still connect and work with WiF 7. When WiFi 7 launched in 2024, not many phones or laptops were compatible with the tech. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t work or can’t get the advantages of WiFi 7 – they just won’t be able to reach the potential fastest speeds.
More and more devices now support WiFi 7, such as the iPhone 16 series, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Google Pixel 8. When you have a WiFi 7 hub and WiFi 7 devices, you will get the full WiFi 7 experience with a massive improvement in latency, connection speeds and bandwidth.

EE has two with WiFi 7 routers, the EE Smart Hub 7 Plus and EE Smart Hub 7 Pro.
The 7 Plus is the most advanced hub offered as standard by any major provider and gives you up to 30% higher speeds, consistently around the home.
The 7 Pro is our cutting-edge hub, which includes tri-band technology. The extra band means more bandwidth to share between devices reduced congestion and less chance of interference.
Switch to EE and we offer two Smart Hubs powered by WiFi 7.
