How to have an ultimate night in with Samsung

22 June 2017

Cancel date night. Ignore those pub invites. It’s time for a classic night in with the ultimate sofa companion. No, we’re not talking about Snuffles or your BFF; we’re actually talking about Samsung. Yes, you heard right! With the likes of the Gear S3 watch, the Gear 360 and the DeX – not to mention the awesome Gear VR headset – an evening in with Samsung can now be a night to remember.

So draw the curtains, take the house phone off the hook (if you still actually have one) and get that pizza ordered. Here’s how to have the ultimate night in with Samsung…

Set the mood… with your watch
What better way to start the evening than with a bit of music? With the Samsung Gear S3, you can pick and play your favourite tunes without even leaving your seat, thanks to the smart watch’s Spotify app, which you can link to your Spotify account. Will it be Drake? Bruno Mars? Or perhaps Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s more your thing? Whatever your taste, a few quick clicks of the wrist is all you need to get this low key party started. And music’s just the start…

Samsung’s latest foray into wearable tech allows you to make calls from your wrist, track activity data throughout the day, and even lasts up to four days on one charge. Four days! Plus, there are 15 awesome pre-loaded designs for the watch face, so you can match the mood to your look! We’re barely scratching the surface here, though. There are now over 10,000 apps available to download for this slick-looking timepiece, letting you do everything from order an Uber to play mini-games on your wrist.

Netflix like you’ve never Netflixed before
Enjoy some Netflix and thrill thanks to the Gear VR headset and the dedicated Netflix VR app, which hooks up to your account allowing you to watch all your favourite Netflix movies in mind-boggling virtual reality. A taste of what’s to come from the future perhaps? The Gear VR allows you to get up-close-and-personal with your favourite shows for a more immersive viewing experience than ever before. But if that sounds a bit too close for comfort, you can instead take a seat in your very own virtual living room and watch the same Netflix shows on a huge virtual TV.

If gaming is more your thing, though, the Gear VR is an untapped pool of glorious possibility. Want to swim with dolphins? Sure thing. Explore outer space? Why not!? Fight blood-thirsty zombies? Fill your boots. With hundreds of immersive, innovative and downright incredible VR games at your virtual fingertips, it’s easy to go hours without coming up for air. Think virtual reality’s a bit of a flash in the pan? With the Gear VR, you’ll think again.

Marvel at all your media on the big screen
Thanks to smartphones, we capture more of our lives than ever before. But what do we do with those hoards of memories sitting in our phone’s gallery? Let’s face it, more often than not; very little. So why not do them justice, and get them up on the big screen TV using the Samsung DeX – that Corfu 2011 Facebook album will never have looked so big.

And photos are just the start with the DeX. If you’ve got a Samsung Galaxy S8, simply dock it in the DeX and you’ll turn your phone into a personal computer (for our younger readers, pop down to the local library to see what a desktop computer used to look like!). With the DeX, you can easily switch between phone and computer to suit the situation.

You’ll need a keyboard, mouse and monitor to get going, but the processors in the Galaxy S8 are so powerful, that once it’s docked in the DeX, you’ve got a fully functioning computer. The Microsoft Office apps for the Galaxy S8 are DeX-ready, while email is always easier when you’ve got a big screen and a keyboard. So in theory, you could get a bit of work done during your big night in… although we wouldn’t recommend it.

Channel your inner James Cameron
Feeling a bit cut-off from the outside world? You can now share your big night in on Facebook and YouTube in glorious 360-degree video, using the Samsung Gear 360. With a front and rear camera and a sleek, ergonomic design, the Gear 360 sets you up with your own 360-degree studio. And the app lets you change the lens mode, which means you can get creative in making your cinematic masterpiece. You can even create immersive videos that are compatible with the Gear VR headset, so people can take a virtual tour of your living room. How cool is that!?
