Staying safe online

Deciding whether or not to give your child a connected device isn't something to be taken lightly. We want to educate and empower you and your child through advice and tools, helping you to have open conversations and a positive relationship with technology.

Understanding the risks

Two thirds of children have had harmful experiences online, according to a 2024 report from leading child safety organisation, Internet Matters. This could include anything from viewing inappropriate content to identity theft and grooming.

Knowing how to talk to your child about online safety is so important, as is deciding the right age to let your child online and with what device.

As your child becomes a teenager, it’s likely the internet will be a part of their daily life. Most teenagers have access to the internet using a smartphone or tablet, and use a wide range of social media sites.

Use parental controls to manage and restrict children’s access to inappropriate sites, content, and platforms. You can also link social media profiles to a parent or guardian account. See more about online safety for teens by Internet Matters.
