What is an eSIM?
Like a traditional SIM card, an eSIM stores the data your device needs to use the EE network. eSIM means an embedded SIM, but unlike a physical SIM card, an eSIM is built into your device.
It also enables multiple calling lines on a device, that you can switch between. For example, one for work and one for personal use. It’s also secure - no one can remove the eSIM if your device is lost or stolen.
Which Google Pixel models are eSIM compatible?
All Google Pixel devices from the Google Pixel 3 and onwards can use eSIMs.
Get an eSIM for your Google Pixel device
There are several ways to get an eSIM up and running. You'll need an internet connection to do so.
If you're new to EE and have ordered an eSIM with your new device directly from us, you’ll either:
- turn on your new device and follow the prompts to install your eSIM
- scan the QR code in the eSIM pack that came with your new device.
If you've ordered an eSIM for a SIM only plan with us, you can download it by logging in to the EE App. Follow the instructions in your confirmation email. If you’re already using the EE app, ensure you're using the latest version.
Transfer a SIM or eSIM onto a Google Pixel
If you're upgrading to a newer Pixel model and would like to use an eSIM, or you’re currently using an eSIM and need to transfer it to your new device, you’ll need to order a replacement eSIM.
- Log in to EE and order a replacement eSIM (you’ll need your current SIM active to complete the activation – DO NOT delete or get rid of the old SIM before this).
Go to Profile > Settings and permissions > Device and SIM > Replace my SIM/eSIM - call 150 from your EE phone or 0800 956 6000 from an alternative line
- pick up an eSIM Pack by visiting an EE store with your ID.
Need to know
Your Pixel's OS includes a QR code reader that launches during setup, so there's no need to download a third-party app.
When you capture your eSIM QR code, the information contained in it is sent back to EE , which allows us to add the eSIM to your phone safely and securely.
If you can't scan a QR code or your camera is broken
You can manually add the information contained within the QR code if you can't scan it.
- When the Add mobile plan screen is open, select Add using activation code
- the details you need, and your unique 32-digit activation code can be found on your eSIM pack or you can log in to your EE account.
How do I switch between the physical SIM and eSIM on my Google Pixel?
On your Google Pixel:
- go to Settings > Mobile network > Operator
- then select the SIM you want to use.
What is Dual SIM?
Dual SIM means there are two SIM slots within the device - a physical SIM card and an eSIM. Like a traditional SIM card, the eSIM stores data that's needed for your device to use the EE network.
Unlike a SIM card, an eSIM is downloaded onto your device.
With the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL only one SIM will work and be able to receive a single signal at once, so you'll have to choose which SIM is active within your phone settings manually.
All other models are Dual SIM Dual Standby if the latest software is used, this means both SIM lines are active.
What to do if your Google Pixel is lost or stolen with an active eSIM
If your Google Pixel with an active eSIM, is lost or stolen, it’s important to contact us and report it immediately. For more information visit Lost or stolen mobile phone.
What happens to my plan if I erase my eSIM?

It's easy to order a replacement eSIM:
- Call 150 from your EE phone or 0800 956 6000 from an alternative line
