Activate and set up a new EE SIM

Got a new SIM? You’ll be ready to call, text and get online in no time. Just follow the steps below for your situation.

Before you start

Setting up your SIM only takes a few minutes, but the time it takes to fully connect to the network can vary.

  • You’ll need your new SIM card to hand.
  • Keep your phone switched on during activation.
  • It can take up to 24 hours for your service to fully switch on, but it’s usually much quicker.
  • During this time, you might see temporary loss of signal or limited service.

If you’ve got an eSIM instead of a physical SIM, the set up process is different. See our guide on how to use an eSIM.

If you've upgraded your device

  1. Put the SIM in your phone.
  2. Activate your new SIM online.
  3. Wait for signal bars and the EE network name to appear on your screen.

It can take up to 24 hours, but it's usually much quicker.

If you're replacing a SIM in the same phone

  1. Keep your old SIM in your device and start the process.
  2. Activate your new SIM online. We'll send you a one time PIN, then you'llneed to enter your SIM's serial number.
  3. Pop the new SIM in your device.
  4. Wait for signal bars and the EE network name to appear

This can take up to 24 hours, but is usually much quicker.

You won’t get an activation text, just a few network updates.

If your SIM is lost, stolen or damaged

Your replacement SIM should already be active and ready to use.

If it isn’t, call:

  • 150 from an EE phone
  • 07973 100 150 from any phone

If you're using an Apple device

You may need to refresh iMessage so it links to the right number:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages.
  2. Turn iMessage off.
  3. Wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.
  4. Go to Settings > Phone.
  5. Check that My Number shows thr correct number.
  6. If not, select My Number and type in the correct one.
