Using transparent backgrounds, subtitles and zoom on your EE TV box

This article helps you use subtitles for programmes that include that feature, as well as transparent backgrounds, while using the menus on your EE TV box and the zoom feature to view text on screen.

Turning on subtitles on your EE TV box

Subtitled programmes have an [S] icon next to their title in the programme guide.

You can turn subtitles on or off by pressing the SUB button on your remote control.

If you have the TV Box Pro:

  • press the MORE button (top right hand button with three horizontal lines on)
  • go to the Subtitles menu

Alternatively:

  • press the main menu button
  • go to Settings > Accessibility & Language > Language & Subtitles
  • select your preferred setting
  • go to Done

About transparent backgrounds

This allows you to still see what's happening in the background while browsing the menus.

To switch this feature on:

  • press the Home button on your remote
  • go to Settings > Accessibility & Language > Appearance
  • select Transparent backgrounds
  • change this to On
  • go to Done

Zoom functions on your EE TV box

There are two zoom functions:

Zoom Interact

This increases the size of the text on the TV guide and menus, making it easier to read the text on the screen. However, it doesn’t work on your live TV picture.

Press the ZOOM button on your remote control to use the Zoom Interact feature. Or, if you have the TV Box Pro, press the MORE button on your remote (top right hand button with three horizontal lines on it).

You can then use YouView as normal.

Zoom Interact isn't available on the On Demand players. You can exit the zoom mode by pressing ZOOM on your remote until it returns to normal view. If you switch off your box in Zoom mode, it will still have Zoom active when you switch it back on.

Zoom Pan

This allows you to magnify an area of the screen and move around using the arrows on your remote control. To activate this function, press the ZOOM button on your remote control twice. A cursor will appear, allowing you to move around the screen.

Press OK to confirm your position.

If you want to exit Zoom mode, press ZOOM again on your remote until the view returns to normal.

Zoom Pan isn't available on the TV guide or On Demand players.
