Using Call Protect

Call Protect lets you choose which calls you want to take and which ones to send straight to voicemail, using AI screening to help block scam calls and notifying you of any suspected nuisance calls.

You can manage Call Protect using the EE app for Apple or Android at ee.co.uk or by using a Digital Home Phone from EE.

Call Protect features

  • Block nuisance calls
    We've made a blocklist of suspicious callers, and we'll send them straight to junk voicemail for you.
  • Block numbers you don't want to hear from
    You can make a personal blocklist of numbers you don't want to hear from, and we'll block those too.
  • Block some kinds of call
    You can choose not to get calls from certain types of numbers like withheld or international numbers.

Use Blocklist

Blocklist is a list of numbers we've linked to nuisance callers. When it's switched on, we send calls from these numbers to your junk voicemail. Blocklist is automatically turned on when you get Digital Home Phone but can be turned off.

Switch blocklist on or off using home phone

  1. On your home phone go to Manage your personal settings.
  2. Scroll to Blocklist and switch it Off or On. Scroll to Blocklist and switch it Off or On.

  1. Download the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. Select Blocked from the 3 tabs at the top.
  6. Turn the slider next to Blocked List to On.
  7. Select the three small dots (...) next to the number you want to block to get more options.
  8. Choose Block.

Block a number

You can block a number by adding it to your personal blocklist. Any future calls from that number will be sent to junk voicemail.

Block a number using home phone

  1. On your home phone click Menu.
  2. Click Call Protect.
  3. Press 1 for 'Add incoming calls to your personal blocklist'.
  4. We'll give you the option to block a number.

Block a number online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. From the three tabs at the top select Blocked
  6. Tap the Plus (+) icon or if you are at ee.co.uk click Add and type the number you want to block.

Has the person you need to block called recently?

After getting to Step 5 above, you'll see your recent calls. Find the number you want to block, tap the three dots next to it (...) to get more options and choose Block.

Unblock a number

Unblock a number using home phone

  1. Go to the Blocked tab and click on the 3 dots (...) to see more options.
  2. Unblock will come up, select it.

Unblock a number online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. From the three tabs at the top select Blocked
  6. Select the plus sign (+), or if you are on ee.co.uk select Add
  7. Type the number you want to unblock.

Add or remove a number from favourites

If a number is on your favourites list, we won’t send a call from that number to junk voicemail no matter what your other settings are.

Add to favourites using home phone

  1. Go your Received tab.
  2. Select the three dots (...) next to the number you want to add to see more options.
  3. Select Favourite.
  4. Or dial 1572 and choose 'Manage your personal settings’.

Remove from Favourites using home phone

  1. Go your Received tab.
  2. Select the three dots (...) next to the number you want to stop favouriting to see more options.
  3. Click Remove from Favourites.
  4. Or you can dial 1572 and choose 'Manage your personal settings.'

Add to favourites online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. From the three tabs at the top click Received.
  6. You’ll see a list of your recent numbers.
  7. Select the three dots (...) next to the number you want to select to see more options.
  8. Choose Favourite.

Remove from favourites online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. From the three tabs at the top click Received.
  6. You’ll see a list of your recent numbers.
  7. Select the three dots (...) next to the number you want to select to see more options.
  8. Select the Favourite setting to de-select.

Do Not Disturb

If you don’t want to get calls at certain times of day, you can send them to voicemail using Do Not Disturb.

When No Not Disturb it is on, calls you want will go to your voicemail. Calls you don't want will continue to go to junk voicemail.

Switch Do Not Disturb on or off using home phone

  1. On your handset click Menu.
  2. Click Call Protect.
  3. Click for 'Manage your Do Not Disturb settings'.
  4. We'll ask whether you want to turn Do Not Disturb on or off.

Switch Do Not Disturb on or off online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Scroll down to Do Not Disturb and tap the toggle to on or off.

Tired of late-night calls?

You can tell your phone to switch on Do Not Disturb at certain times. Just follow the steps above. At the end you'll see an option to set times for Do Not Disturb.

Change Call Protect settings

To change which calls go to junk voicemail, you can amend your Call Protect settings. 

Change Call Protect settings on your phone

  1. On the home screen press Menu.
  2. Go to the Call Protect menu and click Select.

Change Call Protect settings online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. Select the Settings cog and a pop up will appear labelled Your preferences. You can change your Call Protect settings here.

Blocking some types of calls

You can choose to send calls from some types of number straight to junk voicemail:

  • international numbers
  • withheld numbers
  • unrecognised numbers (the kind shown as 'unavailable' on caller display)

Block some types of call using your phone

  1. Click Menu.
  2. Select Call Protect.
  3. Press 3 for 'Personal Settings'.
  4. Press 3 for 'Add certain types of call to blocklist'.
  5. We'll ask which type of call you want to block.

Block some types of call online

  1. Open the EE app or go to ee.co.uk
  2. Go to Plans and Subscriptions.
  3. Choose Digital Home Phone.
  4. Go to Call Protect then Manage.
  5. Select the Settings cog and a pop up will appear called Your preferences.
  6. You'll see a list of types of call. Press the tick-box next to every type you want to block.

Listen to blocked voicemail using home phone

If a number is in your blocklist, we will forward calls from that number to junk voicemail. 

We can only store 20 junk voicemail messages at a time. When your junk voicemail inbox is full, incoming messages will delete the oldest message.

  1. On your handset click Menu.
  2. Select Call Protect.
  3. Press 4 for 'Listen to junk mail'.

Send a call straight to voicemail using home phone

  • When your home phone starts ringing just press the Phone Button (button with a handset icon)

Block a number that's calling you using home phone

If you get a call from someone you don't want to hear from, you can block them in seconds using your phone.

Block someone's number before answering their call

  1. When your phone starts ringing, press Block on the left hand soft key.
  2. Your phone will go hands-free and you'll hear it add the number to your personal blocklist.

Block someone's number during a call

  • While on the call press Options then Block on your phone.
