Help connecting devices to your hub

This article is about common problems with connecting devices to your EE hub for the first time, or after upgrade or replacement.

Use the same WiFi network name and password as your old hub

Change your hub WiFi network name and password to match your old one and your devices should connect automatically. If they don't, you can change your settings manually.

Change your hub settings in the EE app

  1. Select Manage then Broadband.
  2. Choose Smart Hub.
  3. Select the 3 dots.
  4. Select Change WiFi settings.
  5. Enter the WiFi network name and password of your previous hub and save it.

Change your settings in Hub Manager

  1. Go to your browser address bar and type 192.168.1.254
  2. Select Advanced Settings
  3. Choose Advanced Wireless.
  4. Enter your admin password, which you’ll find on the back of the new router.
  5. Enter your old router’s network name and security password, then save.

Make a note of your network name and password and keep it somewhere safe.

Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble connecting your devices try some of these common ways to fix a problem:

  • make sure you're in range of your hub or try moving closer to it
  • check that you've entered the network name and password correctly
  • forget and re-join the network
  • use Compatible WiFi
  • temporarily disable the 5GHZ band in Hub Manager
  • install the latest software updates and drivers

For devices such as an EE Smart WiFi Extender or EE Smart Hybrid Connect it could help to do a factory reset.

Problems connecting a wired device

Make sure both ends of the cable are fully inserted and you're trying to connect using one of your EE hub’s LAN ports, not the WAN port.

Try using a different LAN port or a different Ethernet cable, make sure it’s at least CAT-5e, to rule out a hardware or cable fault.

Some of the latest EE hubs do not support 10Mbps Half Duplex Ethernet ports. If you think you have a device with one of these ports, you may need to connect it to your hub using a switch. You can also try connecting it to the LAN port on one of your Smart WiFi extenders instead if you have them.
