Restart your Openreach modem

Learn how to restart your Openreach modem to fix connection issues. This article ensures you stay connected, manage your setup, and resolve problems quickly and efficiently.

Power cycle method one

Please note that this will temporarily disconnect your Digital Home Phone and broadband services until power to the modem has been fully restored.

  1. Unplug the power cable from the socket on the modem. Don't just switch it off at the mains, as this will mean the Battery Back Up will kick in, and the modem won't be switched off.
  2. Wait 15 seconds, then plug back in.
  3. Wait for the power light to come on: green means it's running from the mains. Red means it's running off the backup batteries, so check your mains power supply. When the Tel and PON/Optical lights have stopped flashing and are solid green, everything is normal.

Power cycle method two

Please note that this will temporarily disconnect your Digital Home Phone and broadband services until power to the modem has been fully restored.

  1. Press the Reset button on the side of the Openreach modem and hold it in for 5 seconds.
  2. Wait for the power light to come on and stop flashing.
  3. When the PON light has stopped flashing and is solid green, then your reset has been successful.
